Mac Will Finally Come Out As Gay On “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia”

It’s been hinted at for years. Now, in the season finale, it’s confirmed: Mac, a character in the long-running farce It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is gay.

In part one of season finale two-parter “The Gang Goes to Hell,” Mac — played by the series creator, Rob McElhenney — forces the gang to take a Christian cruise with him.

While at sea, Mac realizes a gay couple’s on board and tries to convert them into being straight. They subsequently turn the tables and try to convert Mac to homosexuality.

The only reason the conversion is an instant success is because Mac’s been gay throughout the run of the show, which has found him unconsciously scoping out shirtless men, demonstrating a doe-eyed obsession with his ghoulishly narcissistic friend Dennis, and practicing a fanatically unconvincing religious zealotry.

Part two of “The Gang Goes to Hell” airs tonight on FX.
