Anti-LGBT Groups Team Up to Amend Anchorage Non-Discrimination Ordinance

Yesterday, news broke that anti-LGBT group Alaska Family Council (AFC) was teaming up with the extremist group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) to submit signatures to amend the non-discrimination ordinance passed in Anchorage last year. According to ADF, President Alan Sears will  be in Anchorage to submit the signatures himself .

In the letter to its members, AFC indicated that they would be submitting signatures to put an initiative on the ballot to amend the ordinance.  Their proposed amendments will likely aim to gut the protections in the ordinance and leave Anchorage’s LGBT community vulnerable to discrimination.

HRC was a key partner in passing the ordinance working with state and local partners as well as thousands of HRC members across the state. We are partnering with Fair Anchorage to defend fairness in Alaska’s largest city.
