The James Franco-Brent Corrigan Movie Is Ready For Your Viewing Pleasure

by Jeremy Kinser March 28, 2016

Whether or not you’re a, ahem, fan of adult entertainment (we mean that in the most literal sense), it’s likely you’ve been fascinated by the real life (and incredibly grisly) 2007 murder of gay porn studio Cobra Video owner Bryan Kocis by two escorts, Harlow Cuadra and Joseph Kerekes. Both men were convicted and are currently serving life sentences. To ratchet up the drama on this tale and make it even more scandalous (it’s possible), Kocis had been involved with an underage lad named Sean Lockhart, who you recognize by his professional name Brent Corrigan.

It surely comes as no surprise that James Franco also found the tale riveting. So much in fact, that he stars in the upcoming film adaptation helmed by Justin Kelly, who previously put the actor through his paces in another queer-themed biopic I Am Michael. The movie, titled King Cobra, and featuring a stellar cast including Molly Ringwald, Alicia Silverstone and Christian Slater, will premiere next month at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival.

Here’s the official description from the fest’s site:

Writer-director Justin Kelly follows up last year’s festival favorite, I Am Michael, with a ripped-from-the-headlines drama covering the early career of Sean Paul Lockhart (Garrett Clayton), who rose to niche stardom as the gay porn headliner Brent Corrigan, yet did not see the returns he expected from his meteoric success.

Offended by his paltry paycheck, Lockhart falls out with the owner, director, and producer (Christian Slater) of the label that made his famous Cobra video. When the newly minted sex symbol attracts the attentions of a cash-strapped pair of rival producers and performers (James Franco and Keegan Allen) an all out porn turf war ensues. Alicia Silverstone and Molly Ringwald offer memorable turns as the mother and sister stunned by the revelations of the sordid, secret lives of their loved ones as the film delves into the most extreme lengths people will go to stay in the game.
