She Stole The TV And Other Reasons We Love Birthday Girl Amy Sedaris

by Jeremy Kinser March 29, 2016

Amy Sedaris first swiped our attention with her indelible performance as 46-year-old pansexual high school freshman Jerri Blank in the demented sitcom Strangers with Candy. When her character announced she stole the TV, she didn’t realize how right she was. Sedaris has been a compulsively entertaining presence on the small screen with appearances in other series such as Sex and the City (she’s close pals with Sarah Jessica Parker), My Name is Earl and there are her frequent turns as a favored guest on Late Night with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Besides being the sister of beloved humorist David Sedaris, Amy is an author in her own right (her I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence and Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People are essential reads for people who enjoy gracious living) and, as New Yorkers know, the lady makes a tasty cheeseball and cupcake (she operated Dusty Food Cupcakes out of her home kitchen for years). Most of all we’re eternally grateful for the gift of Jerri Blank.

Scroll down to see a few of the many reasons we love Amy, who celebrates the big 55 today.

She taught us about ourselves.

She loves to drink horse placenta.

She loves bunny rabbits. Watch her perform the “dirty sanchez” on her floppy-eared friend.

She knows just what to do with witches and leftover buttermilk.

She’s not afraid to overshare.

She knows how to economize.

She’s a peerless late night tour guide.

She’s not just an alcoholic, she’s also addicted to amphetamines as well as main line narcotics.
