It looks like American Idol runner-up La’Porsha Renae got wind of our epic read of her homophobic comments, because she’s already apologizing for them.

Speaking to TVLine reporter Michael Slezak, Renae walked back her earlier comments in a bit of a softball interview:

The newest addition to the Motown Records roster also faced accusations of being less-than-friendly to LGBT families after a press-conference last Friday in which she was asked to comment about anti-gay legislation passed in her home state of Mississippi. “I am one of the people who don’t really agree with that lifestyle,” she said at the time, citing her religious upbringing. “But I do have a lot of friends and a lot of people that I love dearly who are gay and homosexual… We should just respect each other’s differences and opinions and move on.”

When I asked La’Porsha about the backlash over her comments, she admitted she’d been “offensive by using the word ‘lifestyle’” to describe homosexuality, adding that while she’s still not up to speed about HB1523, she is “firmly” against any law that promotes discrimination.

Whether this is how she truly feels or if it’s all just PR spin is anyone’s guess, but we suppose we’ll have to take her word for it. We just wouldn’t be looking for her to host any LGBT pride events anytime soon.

This community forgives, but we definitely don’t forget. You can head over to TVLine for the full 3-part interview that’s less hard journalism and more gushy fanboy lovefest.
