Welcoming the New Interns at HRC Mississippi

by HRC staff January 26, 2016

Post submitted by Harry Hawkins, HRC Mississippi Field Organizer

A new year, a new semester means a new round of interns at HRC Mississippi. One of the many aspects of this job that I love is the opportunity to meet and work alongside new and interesting people who are the future of our Equality Movement. This semester, HRC Mississippi welcomes Danny Mason, De’Aris Rhymes and Sean McCarthy.

Danny Mason is a senior English major attending Tougaloo College. It is his second semester as an HRC intern. Mason will take a more hands-on role this semester, organizing events on his campus.

“Being a part of the Human Rights Campaign introduced me to many of the problems that affect our community which allowed me to help be a part of the solution,” said Mason.

De’Aris Rhymes is a native of Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Currently, he is enrolled at Tougaloo College, where he is studying English. Rhymes is also an active student on campus, serving as Vice President of Sigma Tau Delta National English Honors Society; an executive member of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honors Society; and an active member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Rhymes plans to attend graduate school after graduation, studying Journalism, with hopes of starting a career with HRC.

“My only hope is that America will one day become more humane, and with organizations like HRC, who are working with great effort to improve the everyday lives of the LGBTQ community, I can definitely see hope for our future,” said Rhymes.

Sean McCarthy is a sophomore Political Science major at Mississippi State University. McCarthy is also a member of the Young Democrats on campus. As a remote intern, McCarthy is to continue his education while organizing events for the Human Rights Campaign on the Mississippi State campus. McCarthy is currently working with LGBT and other organizations on campus to organize a student a voter registration event later this spring.

The time to apply for Summer Internships is fast approaching. For more information on Internships with HRC Mississippi please visit

Here’s The Photo That Nearly Got David McIntosh Banned From Instagram

by Dan Tracer October 24, 2016

When you have a body like this, you should probably just go ahead and do everything sans clothing. McIntosh knows: “If you appreciate your body, why would you want to cover it up? You might as well show it off.” Agreed. “I live in an apartment with buildings facing onto it, so when I walk [...]
