Screen Actors Guild Celebrates LGBT Community at Annual Award Show

by Hayley Miller February 01, 2016

The LGBT and allied community had much to celebrate at the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Saturday night.

Jeffrey Tambor won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as a transgender woman in the hit Amazon show Transparent.

“I’d just like to dedicate this award to the non-Maura Pfeffermans, who don’t have a lot of cash, for their operations, for their medicine, for their freedom,” Tambor said in his acceptance speech.

Alicia Vikander won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for The Danish Girl. The film is about Danish painters Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener.

The cast of Orange is the New Black won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series and actress Uzo Aduba won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role in the show.

Queen Latifah won for her portrayal of openly bisexual Bessie Smith in HBO’s television movie Bessie.

HRC congratulates all the winners.
