HRC Alabama Attends Community Outreach Event in Anniston

by Guest contributor March 01, 2016

Post submitted by HRC Alabama Volunteer Sherry Westfall Matthews

HRC volunteers in Northeast Alabama teamed up with PFLAG Anniston-Gadsden for a one-day community outreach event at AnniCon, a celebration of Asian culture, in Anniston, Alabama.

While some were unaware that there were LGBT organizations in our area, many thanked (and even hugged) us multiple times simply for being there and being visible. Many expressed interest in joining HRC and PFLAG in our work.

More than 100 attendees visited our table. We distributed several resources, including HRC’s Coming Out Guide and Trans Visibility Guide.  Several also signed up on HRC’s website as supporters. It was a great opportunity to raise awareness about HRC on a local level in Anniston, as well as with other attendees from the South.
