Ireland’s Oldest Seminary Rocked By Widespread Grindr Use Among Priests

It’s no huge surprise that seminaries are full of frustrated gay men — for hundreds of years, the priesthood is where you sent your sensitive sons. But technology and social change is finally catching up with the church, and they don’t seem to know what to do about it.

The latest church sex scandal (and definitely not the last) involves St. Patrick’s College in Maynooth, which sounds like a super fun place. According to the archbishop of Dublin, he can’t send students there anymore because the atmosphere is so sexually charged and the Grindr usage is through the roof.

St. Patrick’s dates back to the late 1700s, when it was built to train 500 Catholic priests every year. Lately that number’s dwindled down to around 60 priests — apparently God isn’t what he once was.

The source of his intel are some anonymous letters, so who knows how true the specifics are. But here’s a newsflash for the archbishop: there’s probably a ton of gay sex happening in every seminary. You just happened to find out about one of them. Of course there are rules forbidding sex of any kind at the schools … but have we ever gone a year without hearing about some kind of priestly sex scandal?

Nevertheless, the archbishop is sending his students to the Irish Pontifical College in Rome. Sure, good plan, nothing gay has ever happened in Rome. You might as well have sent them to Caligula’s House of Analingus.

At any rate, the head of St. Patrick’s says that he’s “very unhappy” about the situation, but that there is no investigation underway into the allegations.

NOM just organized a rally at the Mexican embassy in Washington DC, a show of [...]
