Carrie Brownstein Officiates Impromptu Lesbian Wedding & Amy Poehler Helps

by The Next Family November 06, 2015

Portlandia and Transparent star Carrie Brownstein was giving a reading of her book Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl, when during the Q&A session, she was asked to officiate an impromptu lesbian wedding.

Kendall Oshiro and Genevieve Hernandez asked Brownstein to marry them right then and there. Luckily, Brownstein had become a recently ordained minister so she could officiate the wedding of two friends in the next few weeks.

Perhaps the wedding wasn’t so “spur-of-the-moment” for Hernandez and Oshiro, as they came prepared with a marriage license.

Luckily, Brownstein had her friend Amy Poehler present to help out with ceremony. Poehler gave the couple bouquets of flowers and even played a round of the only song she knows on the piano, “Greensleeves.”

Check out the beautiful, funny, and charming wedding in the video below.

I recently wrote an article for The Next Family called, “Family-Friendly Films That Feature Adoption and Foster Care,” that shared wonderful family films with adoption or foster care story lines. My reasoning behind doing so was because every family deserves a chance to see similar families like theirs represented in various forms of entertainment.

The same can be said of other...
