The Next Sounds: Vandaveer

Mark Charles Heidinger, aka Vandaveer quietly released his third official LP, Dig Down Deep, in April this year.  It was only last week that it fell into my hands and I couldn’t be more excited.

His first album, Grace & Speed, found a place in my heart with brooding singer-songwriter tunes—the darkness of Nick Cave paired with those Dylan-esque vocals brought haunted characters to life with a mere guitar at hand.

For this latest album he pairs with longtime singing partner, alt spring peach Rose Guerin, to deliver a lighter heartland-inspired Americana sound.

Enjoy the video for title track, “Dig Down Deep.”

This album is truly his best production to date, with a richness of instrumentation to complement the tales of this natural troubadour.  Producer Duane Lundy offers delicate atmospheres and a raw simplicity that draws us in, as if we’re in the studio with them.   Personally, it just makes me want to grab a tambourine and join in.

You can catch Vandaveer at the Bootleg this upcoming week, Thursday June 30th.  I’ll be there with bells on.

I recently wrote an article for The Next Family called, “Family-Friendly Films That Feature Adoption and Foster Care,” that shared wonderful family films with adoption or foster care story lines. My reasoning behind doing so was because every family deserves a chance to see similar families like theirs represented in various forms of entertainment.

The same can be said of other...
