There are lots of actual health reasons exercise is an important part of daily life.

Then there are less-credible reasons many gay men find themselves obsessing over their bodies in the gym — cultural pressure, narcissism and high libidos chief among them.

But is that necessarily a bad thing? Who doesn’t enjoy checking out a cute guy from across the locker room?

Below, guys share on Whisper why they keep at it in the gym:

The gym I go to is always a big gay scene. I wish I could just workout in peace without all the competition. I

I feel like me being gay and obsessed with the gym is such a cliche. But I really love to workout and I

I don

I can

I can

I got up the courage to try working out at the gym for the first time in my life. I

I

When I was younger I used to spend most of my time doing cardio at the gym. Now I do almost all weights... I am still waiting for my body to change. Has the gay culture impacted me that much? Ugh

Being a gay guy in a gym full of hot straight men... the struggle is way too real and the sexual tension level is WAAAY too high

When I go to the gym and see other gay guys I know working out I feel like I

I hate when guys take their shirts off at the gym, it

I

I feel like I just go to the gym and care about my body because the gay community puts such an emphasis on it. I wish it were different. I feel like I

At the gym - I spend most of my time checking out other guys in the locker rooms and showers..

I honestly can

I think deep down, the only reason I go to the gym & get ripped is so that when I tell other guys I

I still secretly hold out hope that I

I get intimidated by other guys at the gym and find it harder to workout around them
