President Barack Obama is the most progressive President for LGBT rights that has ever occupied the oval office, and he took the time to open up about his passion for the issues during his annual YouTube Interview.
Last month, Obama sat down with Internet stars Destin Sandlin, Ingrid Nilsen and Adande Thorne and gave some unfiltered thoughts on LGBT rights.
To out lesbian Nilsen, he spoke about the generational change in the perception of LGBT people and LGBT rights, bringing up his own daughters in the process:
“The best thing, the thing that makes me most hopeful, is when I talk to Malia and Sasha, young people of your generation – their attitudes are so different, and the notion that you’d discriminate against someone because of sexual orientation is so out of sync with how most young people think – including young Republicans, young Democrats – I think it’s it’s across some of the usual political lines.”
He’s definitely right about that one. When the GOP candidates attempt to wrap themselves up in the rhetoric of the far-right, they’re turning off young progressives and conservatives.
Obama also talks antigay bullying and much more during the nearly hourlong interview, which is definitely worth a watch.
