Pennsylvania Mayors Unite to Update the Commonwealth’s Non-Discrimination Laws

Hayley Miller

Today, several mayors across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania announced their support for the Pennsylvania Fairness Act. This vital piece of legislation would update the state's non-discrimination laws to explicitly protect LGBT people at the state level from discrimination at work, in housing, and in public accommodations.

The coalition is comprised of 20 mayors, including Mayors James F. Kenney from Philadelphia and William Peduto from Pittsburgh.

Pennsylvania’s economy is the sixth largest in the country and the 18th largest in the world – with nearly 6 million Pennsylvanians going to work every day to support themselves and their families.

Pennsylvania is among the majority of U.S. states that do not have clear laws protecting LGBT people from discrimination in employment, housing and business services.
