PHOTOS: See How This Photographer Turned His Body Image Issues Into Empowering Homoerotic Art
For Jean Mailloux, photography is about more than just capturing powerful images. It’s about healing.
“I had a very poor self-image until I was in my 30s,” Mailloux tells Queerty. “Eventually I became more confident with my own body and learned to like who I am. I would say that a large number of the men I photograph have had same issues. I often discuss that with them.”
Mailloux lives in Montreal. His work has been displayed in art centers, galleries and museums across the province of Quebec. Most of his subjects are regular men he meets online or on the street, not models.
“The people I’m most interested in are natural and true,” he explains. “I try to capture their sensitivity, fragility and even vulnerability And I try to show a diversity of personalities and physiques.”
