12 Fantastic Commercials Featuring Modern Families – Love and Pride

12 Fantastic Commercials Featuring Modern Families

By Alex Temblador

In 2014, Pew Research Center released a study that stated that less than half of the kids under 18 in the U.S., lived in a home with two married heterosexual parents. The 2010 census showed that one in ten marriages were between heterosexual couples of different races and 21% of same-sex couples were mixed. If these statistics tell us anything, it’s that families aren’t as homogenous as they used to be, and thankfully, many large brands realize that. Since the beginning of 2014, many companies have released fantastic commercials that feature modern families: LGBT families, interracial families, adoptive families, families with disabilities, and single-parent families. These modern families truly reflect the beautiful change that has occurred in our world. Check out these top twelve commercials from January 2014 until now, that feature modern day families at their best.

  1. Wells Fargo “Learning Sign Language”

Wells Fargo introduces you to two women who are working hard to bring together their family. By the end of this commercial, this lesbian couple adopts their new deaf daughter. Watch this commercial and be moved beyond language by this modern family.

Single Dads

  1. Bounty “Every Day Feels Like Father’s Day”

For Father’s Day 2014, Bounty showed the world their new commercial, a commercial featuring a single father and his daughter. Find out how this modern family came to be, and by the end of this ad, you will be inspired by the strength and love this father shows his daughter.

  1. Toyota USA “My Bold Dad”

Although Toyota didn’t explicitly say outright that the father in their 2015 Super Bowl ad is a single father, the father is the only one featured throughout the ad, even during moments where one might expect a mother might want to be present. Whether this father is really a single father or not, it doesn’t matter because a Toyota commercial that focuses on the father, is a commercial that focuses on a historically non-traditional aspect of parenting: fatherhood. Have tissues on hand when watching this moving commercial.

  1. Cheerios “Gracie”

Remember that Cheerios commercial that featured the white mother, the black father, and the biracial child? Well, Cheerios brought this modern family back together for a Super Bowl ad in 2014, despite the racist backlash the first commercial received in 2013. This time, Gracie, the daughter, learns something new. Fall in love with this modern family all over again by watching below!

5.   Chevrolet “4G LTE Wi-Fi: Family Road Trips”

In this commercial, Chevrolet compares the Chevy Equinox with Wi-Fi and the Ford Escape without Wi-Fi. We are happy to say that they used an interracial family, Asian and Caucasian, for the family who tries out the Chevy Equinox. Check it out below!

  1. Swiffer “Swiffer Helps Clean The Rukavina’s Home”

Swiffer couldn’t have shown a more modern family in this commercial. With an interracial family and a disabled father, Swiffer shows how they helped this modern family with cleaning their home.

Single Moms

  1. Wacoal “My Beautiful Woman”

Get ready to cry with this commercial. Wacoal is a lingerie company in Thailand and at the beginning of 2014, they released an advertisement called “My Beautiful Woman.” It focuses on the story of one single mother. This tear-jerking commercial shows how amazing single mothers are and shows that modern families are making waves in advertisements worldwide.

  1. Teleflora “Ryan’s Unforgettable Mother’s Day Delivery To Mom”

On Mother’s Day 2015, Teleflora filmed real moms receiving a message and a gift from Teleflora. In this particular commercial, Ryan sends his mother, Cindy, an unforgettable Mother’s Day gift. During the commercial, viewers learn that Cindy raised Ryan as a single mother and gave up a lot to teach him how to be the best person he could be. Watch below to find out the story behind this son who became an amazing adult and father thanks to his single mother.

  1. McDonald’s “Pay With Lovin”

Played during the 2015 Super Bowl, this McDonald’s ad features a family of three, a father, a son, and a daughter who has Down syndrome. Be sure to watch until the end to find out how this modern family pays for their meal.

Ads Can Be All-Inclusive

  1. Tylenol “#HowWeFamily”

At the beginning of June 2015, Tylenol asked audiences, “When did you first fight to be considered a family?” With an assortment of LGBT, interracial, and single-parent families, Tylenol shows that it took time and strength for modern families to be accepted today. “#HowWeFamily” is a true testament to the beauty behind modern families and what they symbolize across the world.

  1. Honey Maid “This Is Wholesome”

In 2014, Honey Maid swept the world away with the ultimate commercial that highlights LGBT, interracial, and single-parent families. We love how Honey Maid showed that modern-day, non-traditional families are absolutely “wholesome.”
